Did you know that there are over 5000 varieties of dragonflies around the world?
Of course most of them are, where we aren't, but we can still find a variety of them close to home.

I think the one fact I like the most about dragonflies, is that they like something I don't ~ mosquitoes! So when I see a dragonfly I am glad!
But enjoy them while you can, as a dragonfly spends most of its years in the water in the nymph stage and only a short time in the adult stage. (from several weeks to maybe six months)
Incredible photo. I have a friend who collects things with dragonflies on them. Wishing you a good day.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to remember that (the mosquito for lunch part) the next time I have them fluttering too close. I've not really liked them since I was told as a child that they sewed the lips of lying children together. I expected my lips to be sewn shut at any minute. =D
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting us and taking the time to leave a comment. I love dragonflies... amazing colours which I wish I could bottle. Helen, Darcy and Bingley x
ReplyDeleteHi Betty! Thank you for stopping by my blog yesterday and leaving your sweet comment. I love this post on dragon flies. We have quite a few here in Georgia, all different colors. There is one that I especially love that is black with clear wings. His wings look like a box kite! I was so amazed the first time I saw him. They come out here mostly in the afternoon hours. The skim over our pond and seem to love the tall v-grass in the back of the property. Have a lovely day ahead! Delisa :)

ReplyDeleteBetty, I loved hearing about the dragonflies. I too love to see them around, as they are snacking away on those pesky mozzies!
ReplyDeleteA lovely pic!
